Hailed as a performer “with incendiary aplomb and technical control,” Mexican American pianist Guillermo de la Garza performs regularly both as a soloist and as a sought-after collaborator. Guillermo is a summa cum laude graduate in Piano Performance from The University of Texas at El Paso. Throughout his career, he has studied with pianists from all over the world, including Dr. Dena Kay Jones, from Illinois, Dr. Arthur Greene, from Michigan, Dr. Dmitri Vorobiev, from Russia, Mr. Ivan Klansky and Mr. Miroslav Brejcha from the Czech Republic, and Dr. Laura Spitzer from New Mexico; and, he has participated in master classes for several pianists, including Svetlana Nagachevskaya, and Solon Pierce. Guillermo has performed internationally in venues throughout the United States, Mexico, and Europe, where he attended the International Music Academy in Pilsen, Czech Republic.

Currently, Guillermo serves as resident pianist for El Paso Opera, performing as principal pianist for the Young Artist Program as well as répétiteur for all of the company’s productions, working with such renowned directors as Brian DeMaris, Kathleen Kelly and Robert Tweten. Additionally, he served as music director for Opera UTEP.  As an active and sought-after performer, Guillermo regularly plays collaboratively and as a guest soloist in recitals in universities throughout the United States, and has worked in choral settings with famed conductors, including Z Randall Stroope.

As a soloist, he has appeared with El Paso’s First Philharmonic Orchestra, Fa Music World Orchestra, UTEP Symphony Orchestra, as well as the El Paso Symphony Orchestra -- a performance that, according to El Paso Inc. Magazine, “took on an athletic exuberance” handled with “virtuosic confidence”. Guillermo has served as pianist for the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, El Paso Opera Orchestra, El Paso Civic Symphony, and was keyboardist for both the UTEP Symphony Orchestra and UTEP Symphonic Winds, with which he recorded numerous CDs on the music of contemporary composers, including Julie Giroux and Andrew Boysen, Jr.

In addition to a busy performing career, Guillermo has a private studio of talented students who regularly perform in recitals, master classes and competitions. As a church musician, Guillermo is professionally certified by the American Guild of Organists and enriches worship every Sunday at University Presbyterian Church in El Paso, TX.
